Playground Safety Surfacing

Surfacing under your playground equipment with the appropriate thickness and fall zone dimension is extremely important to the safety of all using the play area. Riggs Recreation has several options to surface your playground.

Engineered Wood Fiber

Engineered food fiber gives you a cushion that is better than sand or pea gravel and is usually used at a 10" to 12" thickness under play equipment. This all-natural wood mulch is the most exonomical surfacing option. Give one of our representatives a call and we would be more than happy to get you a quote.

Loose Fill Rubber Surface

Using a loose fill shredded rubber would only require depths of a compacted 4"-6" in thickness under your equipment and has a longer life expectancy than wood fiber. Our loose fill rubber products are 100% recycled, mold, animal and insect resistant and come in a variety of colors!

 Unitary Rubber Surfaces

Unitary rubber surfaces offer more of a "bounce" to your playground. You can choose from the shredded bonded rubber or a poured in place system. These systems are generally installed over a concrete, asphalt pad, or compact stone base. These are great for accessibility, wear resistance, longevity and color options!

synthetic turf

Synthetic Playground Turf is designed for safety, low maintenance and longevity. It is 100% recyclable and permeable for those extra rainy days. It's fully certified by the International Play Equipment Manufacturer's Association (IPEMA). Combined with our exclusive SofPad underlayment and antimicrobial infill, our synthetic turf system is one of the safest play surfaces available today. It's tough enough for high-use sports and playground areas as well.

Static Block technology is built into the fiber to reduce static build-up on the playground surface.

Heat Block technology reduces the amount of heat that can be absorbed into the turf blades by up to 17.5°F, making it cooler than solid rubber surfaces.

Shine Block helps the turf to be less reflective - so it looks more like natural, fresh-cut grass.

Created with everyone in mind, the turf, infill and SofPad ensures safety and accessibility 100%.
