Recycled, shredded, loose fill rubber has a longer life than engineered wood fiber, yet it requires some maintenance and additional layers to be added over time. 

Engineered Wood Fiber is the most economical surfacing option which gives you a cushion that is better than sand or pea gravel and is usually 10-12" in depth.
